Loch Cluanie

Fort William

Loch Cluanie is a large freshwater loch that we will see on our way to the Isle of Skye. It is a man-made loch which was created in 1957 when the Cluanie dam was constructed as part of an extensive hydro-electric scheme for the area.

Sitting at the head of Loch Cluanie is the historic Cluanie Inn. Where the current inn stands is an old “cattle stance” essentially a resting place for cattle drovers in days gone by and so there has been an inn of some description in use on this site for over 300 years.
